Huinganco
The Garden of Neuquén
It is a small mountain town, distant 456 km from the city of Neuquén and 54 km from the city of Chos Malal and 6 km from Andacollo. Access by asphalt except the last 6 km that are consolidated gravel in very good condition.
The Pehuenches were the first settlers of these lands that took advantage of them for the breeding of cattle and various crops that still remains today. Later, at the beginning of 1900, the gold rush in Andacollo finally consolidated it as the town that today can visit.
The tourist growth is incessant and increases every year driven, among other things, by the number of popular festivals in Huinganco and its surroundings such as the Mote festival or sports activities that have already taken on international relevance, such as the Wind Trail that takes place in Andacollo and that this year it called more than 700 national and international participants. We highlight the growing and influential importance of the Fiesta del Chivito that takes place in Chos Malal and whose expansive wave surpasses Huinganco itself.
You can come to enjoy a few days of rest or be surprised by the wonders of the entire north Neuquen corridor.
Transhumance
Transhumance is an economic activity that generates a unique and almost unique culture that increasingly receives more and more interest in many people in the country and abroad. It is about whole families that in two different periods of the year -brained and wintering- are mobilized by the fields, trails and routes of the North of Neuquén in search of better pastures for their cattle generally composed mainly of goats, besides sheep, cows, donkeys and horses. This route, between the winter and the summer, usually lasts between 1 to several days, depending on the distances that must travel forcing them to eat, rest and sleep where they have luck as long as there is some water and grass for their tired animals.
